Western NY Wellness
Beginning this May, Interlakes Cycling Inc., the upstate New York Cancer Research and Education Foundation and RV&E Bike and Skate will lead weekly bike rides for cancer survivors of all ages. This welleness program, designed by Dr. James V. Fetten, MD, focuses on restoring the cancer survivor to his/her level of physical fitness prior to the onset of illness.
Jim was selected to be one of the 26 cyclists on the Tour of Hope last October with Lance Armstrong. When the Tour of Hope ended in Washington D.C. after a cross country non-stop journey, the team has raised over 1.3 million dollars for the Lance Armstrong Foundation. When he is not riding with Team JW Dundees, Jim can be found at Interlakes Oncology and Hematology, P.C. Combining his two areas of expertise, medicine and cycling, will result in a unique endeavor: bringing together cancer survivors in an outdoor setting to focus on the physical component of their recovery tat is so critical, yet too often forgotten.
The rides will take place every Monday evening at one of four different locations. The intent of the cycling program is to promote the benefits , too numerous to list, of pedaling a bicycle. The pace of the ride will be dictated by the riders; no one is left behind! All rides will be lead by a member of Team JW Dundees, as well as Dr. Fetten. A dedicated website for the survivor rides is under construction.
